Research Interests

In 2006, I was appointed as an academic clinical fellow and have since been able to pursue my interests in both clinical neurology and electrophysiology research. During the research block of the fellowship, I developed an interest in transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS), a non-invasive brain stimulation technique with a range of potential diagnostic and therapeutic applications.

I subsequently gained a Wellcome Trust fellowship for a 4-year MRes/PhD programme in translational medicine and therapeutics. During the current MRes, I am seeking to improve our understanding of the mechanism and level of action of tDCS. In my PhD, I will use a combination of tDCS and intermuscular coherence analysis to develop new electrodiagnostic biomarkers for corticospinal tract dysfunction with a view to lessening diagnostic delays in motor neuron disease.
